Ok people, gear up for our one day Hockey Tournament - with the perpetual hockey trophy up for grabs. Please direct any questions about this event to Ashley Curtis (0414 321 150) or Luke Hilderbraat. Here's all the details:
Date: 8:00am sharp - 3:30pm, Sunday 20 January 2013. Yes, it's an early start but we have to be off the court on time, as wheelchair rugby players are training at 4pm - stick around to check that out if you want.
Where: Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Center (Riverwood YMCA), Cnr Belmore Rd and the M5 Riverwood, Sydney.
Cost & AUS membership: Cost is $10 per rider. This is an Australian Unicycle Society (AUS) event so you will need to be an AUS member to play - see the AUS web site for membership details.
Teams and individuals: We want TEAMS to register their attendance so get your teams organised. We want to know how many teams will be here in advance so the schedule will be ready to go at the start of the day, as it's an early finish (contact: Ashley Curtis or 0414 321 150) . If you do not have enough players to make up a team, let me know that you are coming at least a week before the event and we will find you a team. Team Captains let me know what your teams are. We are expecting at least one team each from Revesby, Sydney, Northern Beaches and Canberra. We would love to also have teams or players from Melbourne, Northern Territory and any other unicycle hockey enthusiasts.
Venue and your equipment: The venue is awesome: an indoor court with painted rubber floors offering great grip. An indoor venue means NO metal peddles, if your hockey stick is sharp then tape the end. We recommend wearing gloves and kneepads. We have booked one court for hockey and a lot of the day the second court will be free. This is where we are planning some hockey skill tests, where you will be tested on passing, speed, dribbling etc and get an official hockey skill score. This will help us pick the Australia Teams for APUC - Asia Pacific Unicycle Championships (to be held in Canberra in Jan 2014). Nic Vevers is working on this now, more details later.
Rules: Play will be with a tennis ball, 5 players on the court at a time, IUF - International Unicycle Federation Rules apply.
Please spread the word. Put on any Facebook or web pages you have. See you guys soon!
