Revesby recently hosted its Unicycle Hockey and Unicycle Basketball Championship. The weekend was a great success with 35 riders from NSW, the ACT and a couple from Victoria competing. Activities included a city night ride on the Friday, with basketball on Saturday and hockey held on Sunday.
There was added incentive this year, as the champions would be the first to have their team’s name engraved on the perpetual trophies.
Five teams competed in the basketball: Revesby Blue; Revesby White; Canberra; Sydney Red; and Sydney White. A lot of competitors were new to basketball but most games were very close, with Revesby Blue taking out the title undefeated, beating Revesby White for second and Sydney White for third place.
The most anticipated event was definitely the hockey, with a fierce rivalry between the three super powers of Canberra, Sydney and Revesby. Five teams competed for the title: Canberra fielded an A & a B team, with Sydney putting up Red and Black teams, and a full strength Revesby team.
The play off for third was awesome between Canberra and Sydney Red, with Canberra winning in golden point extra time 3:2. The hockey championship was taken out by Revesby who proved too strong on their home ground. They left their best performance for the final against Sydney Black, taking out the title with a score of 11:2.
It was great to see everyone enjoying the competition and thanks to all the competitors and family/friends who all helped make this a successful weekend.
Also a big thanks to Mal & unicycle.com Australia who sponsored the perpetual trophies. These will remain in the hands of Revesby until the next competition, probably Melbourne Uninats in 2012.
