Australia wins in Asian Pacific Unicycle Hockey Convention!

Asia Pacific Unicycle (Hockey) Convention

What a fantastic competition! If you haven't heard by now, Australia took out the inaugural Asia Pacific Unicycle Hockey Convention in Singapore in November. Team players (in alphabetical order) Cris B, Ashley Curtis (Captain), Ty P, Matt P and Nic V were outstanding in tough conditions - 33 degrees and 90% humidity, playing with no reserve team members (but exceptional support from their single person cheer squad and blow up mascot). The competition was friendly but fiercely competitive and there's no doubt that Australia dominated:

  • Australia vs Hong Kong 1 - 0

  • Australia vs Singapore 10 - 0

  • Australia vs Singapore (under 21s) 5 - 1

  • Australia vs South Korea 3 – 2

Positions second to fourth were determined on goal difference, with all of the other teams winning two and losing two games. Hong Kong finished second, South Korea third, Singapore fourth and Singapore (under 21s) finished fifth.

Korean Preparations

It wasn't all competition though - the Korean team also amazed participants with a demonstration of some very serious martial arts.

Battle Commences…

Following all the cheers and tears, teams and supporters were treated to a sumptuous feast and a welcome dip in the pool, courtesy of the Koreans. The following day involved a ride through downtown Singapore and sampling of local cuisine.

A huge thanks to the Singaporean organisers – you put on a really fantastic competition that can only grow and many, many thanks for your warm and generous hospitality.

Thanks also to all the participating teams and supporters – it was wonderful to meet you, we had a heap of fun and we hope to do it all again soon!! Pics are posted at the Singapore Unicyclists photo site and also the Asia Pacific Unicycle Hockey Webshots page.

Australia withdraws from hosting UNICON XV 2010

It was with deep regret that the AUS recently informed the the IUF Committee & President of the withdrawal of Australia from hosting of UNICON XV 2010.

This action was taken after discussion and passing of a motion at the 2007 AUS AGM. Australia does not presently have sufficient resources ororganisers to host Unicon XV in Australia in 2010. Unfortunately the group of riders who originally bid for Unicon XV are no longer sufficiently active to organise the event in 2010 and no other volunteers have been able to make the necessary commitment.

We will let you know once the IUF determines an alternative venue – it may be New Zealand!
